Day 9

Took the day off so no riding.

Miles from home to San Francisco = 3640

We just hung around San Francisco and relaxed. Starting the trip home tomorrow,

Day 8

Miles Rode = 251 Staying in San Francisco, CA.

After a short ride over to the Pacific Coast Highway, through some beautiful mountain country we rode it all the way to San Francisco.

It was kind of cold most of the trip with the fog not burning off until after 12. Some great twisties before getting to the lower altitudes and then traffic started about 60 miles before San Fran.

Once in San Fran we took the scenic route to get to the hotel. The hills are as big as they look in the pictures maybe bigger. I think both bikes now need new clutches.

We are staying walking distance from Pier 39 & Fisherman’s Wharf.

Tomorrow is our day off so no riding the bikes are parked in a underground garage and staying there. It will be a nice break before we start the ride home.

Day 7

Miles Rode = 406 Spending the night in Paso Robies, CA

We took it easy today, we are about 10 miles from our goal of the Pacific Ocean. we will get to see and touch it tomorrow.

Weather was nice today, in the late afternoon it was in the mid 90’s.

About a mile from the hotel on we saw a crazy accident that closed the highway for hours. We saw the truck flip on its side slide down the highway and up the embankment. For a second we though it was going to come through the guard rail. It is after 8 PM and the traffic is still gridlocked.

Day 6

Miles Rode = 282 Spent the night in Las Vegas NV

It was a light riding day. Tom had to be at the Harley dealer at 8 AM to get a new tire and oil change.

The weather was a brisk 35 degrees in Flagstaff when we got up. With very strong winds.

I  left Tom to the dealer and I headed to Las Vegas which was the closest BMW dealer. BMW Motorcycle of Las Vegas They were great I got there around 11:30 and they were able to get me right in for an oil change. They were also nice enough to wash and wax my bike. It was a little dirty, they ask if I took it off road.

They ride to Vegas was awesome, cold but awesome. The wind on US 40 was unlike anything I have ever rode though, it actually pushed you into the next lane. The views were unreal, I wish I could  take pictures that would show the scale and beauty of the mountains.

We got a room at Caesars Palace and had the buffet at the Wynn for dinner.

Day 5

Miles Rode = 455 Spending the night in Flagstaff, AZ

Was a busy day.

Started off in NM.

Rode to the 4 Conner Monument, Got to touch 4 states at once.

Crossed the Continental Divide at 7900 feet.

From there we rode through Monument Valley in UT. Rt 160 is an awesome road I would advise anyone who has the chance to drive it. The views are spectacular. Might be the best road we have been on yet.

On the way to NV, Tom H. got a flat rear tire so we learned how to plug a tire in a gas station parking lot. We both have the same repair kit the Stop N Go. To be safe we going to let it sit overnight to make sure it is holding air.

Day 4

Miles Rode = 535 Spending the night in Albuquerque, NM

Another beautiful day, temperatures hit mid 90’s going through Texas. We stopped at “The Cadillac Ranch” for a bit of roadside art.

Again the scenery was amazing. Now way to really describe the views.

Had dinner at another “Triple D” location called Sadies.

Day 3

Miles Rode = 501 Spending the night in El Reno, OK.

The weather was great today. once the clouds burned off in the morning it was bright and sunny, temps got to the high 80’s.

Arkansas and Oklahoma have a lot of open space and farm land, the scenery was awesome.  Saw my first ever crop duster. I did not even know they still had them, was cool to watch.

We had dinner at a German place that was on Dinner, Drive ins, and Dives. It was really good, Not that I would know good German food from bad German food.

Then we went to the Oklahoma National Memorial. We saw the public park on the site of the buildings, the inside was closed by the time we got there.

Day 2

Miles Rode = 445 Staying in West Memphis, AL.

Last night was interesting we tried to stay in Canton TN, but every hotel room was booked anywhere near there. We ended up riding over 50 miles in the rain and fog over a mountain pass in the dark to find a hotel. It was great… Finally found a room around 10 PM

We started about 80 miles south east of Knoxville TN, We had to skip the Tail of The Dragon. The weather was too bad for that ride. it rained until we got to Nashville.

The day ended up really well. We made it to Memphis and had a great dinner and listened to some good music at BB Kings blues bar. Ribs and Brisket were awesome.

Day 1

Miles Rode = 553

Rained most of the day.  Just got to hotel will post pictures and write more tomorrow.

Day 0

Miles Rode = 212

So were finally on the rode. After months of talking about this trip it is here. We left DE around 4 PM, rode to Rehoboth to touch the ocean. Then rode south until it got to cold to ride around 8:30 and had dinner in a local diner.

We have the first injury of the trip, It is me and I have not idea how it happened, Here is a quick look, If anyone has any idea what happened please let me know.

Tomorrow will be a long day first 500 mile day of the trip, hope to make it to “Tail of the Dragon”
